Outcue ("the app", "we", "us") is operated by Christian Stuff, Giessen, Germany. This policy explains what data Outcue handles and how.

What Outcue does

Outcue announces music tracks via a text-to-speech voice while you listen, so you don't need to look at your phone to know what's playing. The app reads playback metadata (track title, artist, album) from music apps on your device via Android's MediaSession API.

What we collect

On-device only (never sent off-device)

The following data is processed only on your phone and is never transmitted to us or any third party:

• Track titles, artist and album names from your music apps
• Your settings (enabled music apps, announcement language, audio behaviour, headphones-only mode)
• The list of installed apps with media playback capability (used to display their names in the settings screen)
• The current state of audio output devices (whether headphones are connected)

Sent to our backend (only when "Neural voice" is enabled)

When you enable the Chirp 3 HD neural voice (a paid feature), the title and artist of each announced track are sent to our backend over HTTPS for voice synthesis. We do not store the text. The resulting audio file is cached by content hash so future requests for the same text can be served without re-synthesis. The cache is not tied to any user identity.

Sent to RevenueCat (subscription management)

We use RevenueCat to manage subscription state. When you subscribe to Outcue Pro:

• An anonymous installation identifier is sent to RevenueCat
• Your Google Play purchase token is sent to RevenueCat for verification
• Subscription events (start, renew, cancel, refund) are recorded by RevenueCat on our behalf

RevenueCat does not receive your name, email address, or any other personally identifying information.

Sent to Google Play Billing (purchases)

Google Play handles all payment processing. Outcue never receives your card number, billing address, or any other payment details. See Google Play's privacy policy for details.

What we do NOT collect

• Name, email, phone, postal address
• Location (precise or approximate)
• Photos, videos, contacts, calendar entries, messages, files
• Health and fitness data
• Web browsing history
• Crash reports, diagnostics or usage analytics
• Audio recordings (Outcue produces audio output; it never records)
• Notification content (despite holding Notification Access permission, we use it only as a token to call Android's MediaSessionManager)

Legal basis (GDPR)

For users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland:

• App functionality (text-to-speech synthesis): Art. 6(1)(b) — performance of a contract
• Subscription management: Art. 6(1)(b) — performance of a contract
• Anonymous installation identifier: Art. 6(1)(f) — legitimate interest in operating a subscription service

Cross-border transfers (e.g. RevenueCat in the USA) are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.

Retention

• On-device data: kept until you uninstall the app
• Audio cache on our backend: kept indefinitely; contains no user-identifying information
• Subscription state at RevenueCat: kept for as long as you have an active or recently expired subscription, plus statutory retention periods

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access the data we hold about you, request correction or deletion, object to processing, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (e.g. Der Hessische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit).

To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below. Since our backend cache is not tied to user identity, no deletion is necessary on that side. For RevenueCat data, we can delete your customer record on request.

Children

Outcue is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top will change accordingly. Material changes will be announced in the app.
